After a successful year as a full time teacher, I am well prepared to take on the challenges that education presents. I have a passion for the intricacies of mathematics and strive to help others discover an interest and develop an affinity for the subject. I view myself as a successful and effective teacher, tutor and student. I strive to provide a comfortable classroom environment and present subject matter in a creative, rigorous manner, that requires the use of higher-ordered thinking skills. I hope to do this in an effort to help students experience the type of success that breeds confidence and curiosity.

Work

experience

Mahwah Highschool
Teacher of Mathematics 2013-2014

My experience at Mahwah High School has laid the foundation to help me become a knowledgeable and skilled teacher. During my time at the high school, I was granted the opportunity to teach three sections of College Prep Pre-Calculus, Algebra I and Algebra I Essentials. Over the past year, I have developed cooperative learning strategies and methods to peak student interest and engage their attention throughout any given lesson. These strategies have helped to mold the students into independent thinkers. Further, I have worked to create rigorous lessons that prepare students for upcoming standardized testing, namely, the PARCC exam, by developing intellectually stimulating lessons which focus on applications of Mathematics in the real world. I have also gained a familiarity with the inner workings of a public school and understand the many roles and tasks teachers must complete in order to best service the school and the community.

Ramapo College of New Jersey

Mathematics Tutor 2010-present

During the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, I hold up to 15 weekly office hours, during which Ramapo students come for assistance in their math classes. This includes leading recitations, tutoring college level Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II. Tutoring advanced courses, such as Calculus II over the past five years, has enriched my knowledge of Mathematics and prepared me to teach the advanced courses offered in many high schools.
